'Beneath Lantern Hill' |
The Presentation Print This print is an open edition giclee print on museum quality paper with a slightly structured soft-textured surface as in a traditional fine art paper. The paper is acid free with a weight of 315gsm. The normal print size is approximately 21.5 x 13.5 inches, but, as this is a bespoke piece of art, the artist can produce it for you at a smaller size so that it can hang in that ideal position in your house or will be the best size for a gift. A bespoke picture can have your loggo, or wording placed on it, a superb solution for a presentation gift.
An email newsletter tells you which prints are rare. Typically it features one print and tells the story behind it. It tells collectors the latest painting Michael is working on and the latest print he is producing. It describes where Michael's paintings are being exhibited and selects a charity print supporting farmers, lifeboats, dartmoor ponies or hospice charities to show how that print is making a difference. The newsletter is free and you can unsubscribe at any time. Please click on the link to be kept in touch with Michael's work. The Story of the PaintingOne of the last sailing trading ships, the Result is on the left of the picture. The Collier had the picturesque name Snow Flake - she used to be based in Ilfracombe. The fishermen in the foreground were loading lobster pots and their boat had originally been a traditional Cornish fishing boat, just as Michael has painted her. Unfortunately the fishermen had removed the mast and sails and installed an engine and wheel house so Michael restored her to her former self in this painting. The fishermen owned a pub in Ilfracombe and were the first to raise money for the Clovelly Lifeboat. This lifeboat was run by Clovelly when the RNLI withdrew their 70 foot boat for a number of years and did not replace it. The house on the hill is a chapel which used to show a light in the small glazed tower to guide incoming ships - hence the name Lantern Hill. The sheds on the historic quay were supply sheds erected in the Second World War that have never been replaced.
