Painting in action - the detail of the foreground and the river develop

"This has been a very pleasant way to pass a few days - the weather has been kind, the wildlife and sheep have grown used to me and I have enjoyed being with them - and the painting is coming on very well.

How to paint, starting the foreground

I have now started the river and the foreground. You can see the inevitable result of painting outside as the midges home in on the painting.

I have now finished the on location bit and will complete the painting in my studio, but will wait until the paint has dried so that I can add glazes and detail where necessary."
